Reasons
I am Brian, a young lyricist from Northern California. I started rappin' when I was 11. I love rap among other things such as running track, dancing, skateboarding, and, of course, women. I began rapping cause I love rap music and I love to rhyme. I have an unusual sense of vocabulary and I wanted to utillize it in a creative way. But I did not want to be like other rappers and not make my own songs and I do not want to be like them or anyone else for that matter. I want to be distinctly original. I want to make my own songs. I want people to hear my raps and immediately know that it's me. I never want to be confused for anyone else.
I may be young but that does not mean I have to be "perky" my songs like other peeps. When am writing a rap I don't think that I'll be competing with Bow Wow or Lil' Romeo for sales. I think of competing with the big names like Eminem, Nate Dogg, etc. I want to be respected on their level and not as a little kid compared to them. I'm not sayin' that I'm better than Eminem and Dr. Dre, I just want to be respected by them.
Now in the world of rap I'm noticing a lot of unoriginality. Peole aren't writin' their songs anymore. I think that that is kinda spoiling their songs. Like, just as an example, you hear a Snoop Dogg song that's cool. But he didn't write it. You kinda lose that idea of him being a skilled lyricist. The real rapper is whoever wrote the song. Not the person who is paid for sayin' it. I'm not sayin' that all rappers are like that. Take Eminem for instance. He obviously writes his own songs because no writer would ever take a chance that he might get beef for makin' Eminem diss Britney Spears in one of his songs.
That's why I don't let anyone write my songs. I don't wanna lose in the music industry cause some second-rate guy wrote a horrible song for me to sing. If I go down I want it to be my fault alone.
